Spoon

wood

size :26 cm long, 10 cm diameter (ladle)

Herero, Southern Africa

The object was given to the DITSL on permanent loan in June 1989 by Wilma Hilleke-Bühner (*28.02.1907-14.06.2000). Mrs. Hilleke-Bühner was married to the DKS graduate Ernst Ferdinand Hilleke (*18.03.1904-13.12.1987), who attended the school between 1926 and 1928.
The object presumably originates from a trip by the Hilleke/Hilleke-Bühner couple in 1965, during which they are also known to have visited Namibia. Nothing else is known about the exact context of the acquisition at this point in time.
