Witzenhausen Thesis Research Grant (WTRG) - Kurzzeitstipendien für einen Forschungsaufenthalt im Ausland
DITSL gives out grants for a minimum of three and a maximum of four months for a stay abroad to support students enroled in the University of Kassel's study programmes in carrying out field research for their thesis work (master thesis or diploma thesis) in developing countries in the tropics and subtropics. WTRG is a personal grant, which enables the grantees to gather living- and working-experience in the development oriented research in developing countries in the tropics and subtropics.
Applicants have to submit a project proposal for their thesis research. The research must contribute to achieving the UN Millennium Developments Goals, particularly goal no. 1 "eradicate extreme poverty & hunger" and /or their impacts. This must be explicitly elaborated in the proposal. Of particular interest are proposals aiming at sustainable solutions to development problems. Organic agriculture and fair trade are given special consideration. The stay abroad must be justified exclusively by the thesis research. Grants are not intended for attending lectures or study programmes at universities abroad.
The grant covers the travel costs (usually limited to the airfare), a monthly allowance to cover living expenses and a subsidy to the costs of a overseas health insurance for the duration of the stay abroad. Research costs, equipment, consumables, local labour or transport costs are not covered.
Proposals must be submitted before the beginning of the research stay abroad. Proposals are evaluated by 4 referees, the time to decision is at least 2 months. Proposals are accepted for funding with the majority of votes of the referees. Submitting proposals does not automatically entitle to a grant.
